  Head's Lines

I would like to thank all of the staff, students and parents for their support In making Open Evening such a great success this week. The school was busier than ever before. We received some really lovely feedback about the manners and good nature of our student guides and helpers, who were a credit to themselves, their school and their families.

I was proud of the way Nick Miller conducted himself in his role as ‘Head for the Day’ last week and felt he wrote a lovely introduction to last week’s SJL news.

Amid the usual flow of nice news is week I was delighted that a member of the public felt moved to contact us about the helpful and good mannered nature of two of our students as they helped her cross a busy road. I was pleased to hear that Freddie Lange Hewlett reached the final stages of the national Chorister of the Year competition. I was delighted to hear that our school equestrian team did so well in the inter school eventer competition. The Sir John Lawes team consisted of N Lee riding Greycott Occasion, V Wedd riding Mr. Gray, K Goodwin riding Dancing Douglas, and K Luck riding Lady Jazz. Against 23 other schools of national repute they did extremely well. It was also wonderful to hear that 25 of our students have written poetry that is due to be published at Christmas.

These are just examples, as always there is far more good news than I could possibly include.

As always, if you would like to make any comments or suggestions I would be pleased to hear from you, please contact me at head.sirjlawes@thegrid.org.uk

HOODIES, COATS, HATS, SCARVES AND GLOVES

This is just a reminder as the weather changes, that outdoor coats should only be plain navy. They must not be leather or bomber jacket style and should not have emblems or logos -as outlined in the planner. None of the above items should be worn inside the school buildings and, if they are seen, will be confiscated for parental collection. All of these items should be stored in a locker rather than carried around the school.

TWILIGHT INSET

A reminder that there will be a twilight INSET on Tuesday 11 October with students leaving school at 12.30.

If parents want us to look after their children until the normal bus time of 3.30, then a place should be booked with reception by Tuesday 11 October at 10.30 am. This is vital for health and safety regulations and insurance purposes.Thank you.

On 30 September, we held a cake sale to raise money for Action Aid, which supports impoverished children in third world countries. We appealed for cakes and made many ourselves. In the end we made nearly £112 through the sale of the cakes and donations!

Thank you to everyone who supported us – the day was a huge success.
